More Arizona consumers are coming forward with complaints involving billing disputes and cancellation problems tied to EOS Fitness memberships, according to a new Arizona’s Family investigation. Several gym members say they continued being charged even after attempting to cancel their memberships, while others reported unexpected fees and difficulty resolving account issues through customer service channels.
Arizona’s Family reported that the station first began receiving complaints from EOS Fitness members months earlier and has since heard from additional consumers who say they experienced similar issues. Many of the complaints involve customers who believed they had properly canceled their memberships but later discovered charges continuing to appear on their bank accounts or credit cards.
One Arizona customer told the station she attempted to cancel her EOS membership after moving out of state. According to her account, she believed the cancellation process had been completed, but she later discovered recurring charges were still being withdrawn. She said repeated efforts to contact the company and resolve the issue became frustrating and time-consuming.
Other customers described similar experiences involving cancellation requests, annual fees, account balances, and collection notices. Several consumers claimed they continued receiving billing notifications after believing their memberships were no longer active. Some reported being told they still owed money despite attempting to terminate their memberships months earlier.
The report noted that many gyms, including EOS Fitness, often require customers to follow specific cancellation procedures outlined within membership agreements. These policies may involve submitting cancellation requests through designated channels, providing notice before billing cycles, or completing required documentation. Problems can occur when customers believe they have canceled successfully but company records indicate additional steps were still required.
Arizona’s Family reviewed online consumer complaints involving EOS Fitness and found a large number of reports describing billing disputes, cancellation difficulties, and customer service concerns. Complaints appeared across multiple consumer review platforms, with customers expressing frustration about ongoing charges and challenges obtaining refunds.
In response to the growing number of complaints, EOS Fitness provided a statement to Arizona’s Family defending its policies and emphasizing that member agreements clearly explain billing and cancellation requirements. The company stated that it works directly with members to address concerns and resolve account disputes whenever possible.
EOS also said it serves hundreds of thousands of members across multiple states and that the overwhelming majority of memberships operate without problems. Company representatives indicated that individual account situations can vary and often depend on the specific circumstances surrounding membership agreements and cancellation requests.
According to the report, some customers eventually succeeded in obtaining refunds or having disputed charges reversed after escalating complaints through management, financial institutions, or consumer advocacy channels. Others, however, said the process required extensive follow-up before issues were resolved.
Consumer advocates interviewed for the story encouraged gym members to carefully review all membership contracts before signing. Experts recommended keeping written records of cancellation requests, saving email confirmations, documenting communications with customer service representatives, and monitoring bank statements for unexpected charges.
The report also highlighted the importance of understanding annual fees, automatic renewal clauses, billing schedules, and cancellation deadlines that may be included in gym contracts. Consumer protection experts noted that many disputes arise because customers are unaware of contract terms that remain in effect after they stop using a facility.
Arizona’s Family stated that viewers who experience unresolved billing disputes with businesses can seek assistance through organizations such as the Arizona Attorney General’s Office Consumer Information and Complaints Unit or the Better Business Bureau. Consumers may also dispute certain charges directly with their banks or credit card providers when appropriate.
EOS Fitness has expanded rapidly throughout Arizona and other states in recent years, becoming one of the largest gym chains operating in the Southwest. The company currently operates numerous Valley locations and continues opening new facilities as membership demand grows.
The Arizona’s Family investigation emphasized that while many gym members report positive experiences, the growing number of billing complaints has raised concerns among some consumers who say they want greater transparency and easier cancellation processes. The station reported that additional customers continue contacting its newsroom with similar concerns regarding membership billing and account management issues.
