The Phoenix Zoo has reopened after being forced to evacuate and shut down early due to a reported bomb threat, according to authorities.
The incident happened Friday afternoon when a threat was called in, prompting officials to immediately clear the zoo as a precaution. Police responded to the scene and conducted a full sweep of the grounds to ensure there was no danger to visitors or staff.
Out of an abundance of caution, the zoo closed for the remainder of the day while officers searched the property. During the investigation, no explosives or credible threats were found, and authorities later indicated the call may have been a false report.
The evacuation involved a large number of people, including thousands of guests and hundreds of staff members, all of whom were safely escorted out without any reported injuries. Officials praised the cooperation of visitors during the situation, which helped ensure the evacuation went smoothly.
After the area was cleared and deemed safe, the zoo reopened the following day and resumed normal operations. Officials confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public, and the investigation into the source of the call is still ongoing.
