A woman who had been on the run for nearly two years has been arrested in Georgia after authorities discovered her hiding in an unusual place inside a home.
According to investigators, the arrest happened Monday in Moultrie, Georgia. The Grady County Sheriff’s Office said they received a tip that the fugitive, identified as Kayla McKenzie, was staying at a residence in the area.
Law enforcement worked with deputies from the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office and went to the home to investigate. After arriving, officers secured the property and obtained a search warrant before beginning a thorough search of the residence.
During that search, authorities located McKenzie hiding inside a floor air-conditioning return vent. Officials said she had been evading law enforcement for nearly two years and had an outstanding felony bench warrant at the time she was found.
Once discovered, McKenzie was taken into custody without any incident. She was then transported to a detention facility, where she is now facing charges connected to the outstanding warrant.
The information in the case was provided by the Grady County Sheriff’s Office, and the investigation leading up to the arrest involved coordination between multiple law enforcement agencies.
