A fire broke out Sunday evening at a senior living community in Mesa, leaving one person injured and prompting a prompt response from firefighters. The incident occurred at the Citadel Retirement Community, located near Higley Road and Broadway Road, when smoke was spotted coming from an apartment on the second floor.
Mesa fire officials were called to the scene after reports of the fire, and crews arrived to find smoke coming from the apartment unit. Firefighters were able to quickly gain control of the flames and stopped the fire from spreading to other nearby apartments within the building.
Officials say one person was transported to a hospital for treatment after the fire, but they did not release details on the severity of that person’s injuries. At the time of the initial reports, it remained unclear what exactly caused the fire, and investigators were expected to work to determine the origin and cause of the blaze.
Fire crews’ rapid action helped prevent a more serious situation, and residents in the community were likely displaced or affected while emergency personnel worked to keep the fire contained. Authorities have not yet provided further updates on the condition of the injured person or the investigation into what sparked the fire.
