An Oklahoma state Senate candidate was found dead inside his truck just two days after he was reported missing, according to officials.
Barry Christian, 54, had been reported missing on Wednesday after he failed to show up for a scheduled meeting. His disappearance raised concern and led to a search effort to locate him.
Authorities said that on Thursday, investigators discovered Christian’s truck in a rural area. When they located the vehicle, they found him dead inside.
Christian was one of three candidates running in the Republican primary for District 38 of the Oklahoma State Senate, with the election scheduled for June 16.
Following the discovery, his remains were taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Officials said the medical examiner will determine both the cause and manner of his death.
Authorities have not released additional details about what led to his death, and the investigation remains ongoing as officials work to determine the circumstances surrounding the case.
