A popular children’s toy sold by Build-A-Bear Workshop is being recalled after officials identified a potential safety risk that could harm young children.
According to the report, the recall involves more than 35,000 plush bears, specifically the “Heartwarming Hugs” model. These toys include a special pouch on the side that contains a removable heart filled with ceramic beads, designed so it can be heated or cooled for comfort.
Officials say the issue centers on the zipper used to secure that pouch. The zipper slider can detach, which creates a choking hazard for children. Because of the size and nature of the piece, authorities warn it could lead to serious injury or even death if swallowed.
The toys were sold both in stores and online between January and March 2026 for about $48. Each affected product can be identified by a specific model number, 034464, which is located on a label sewn into the back of the bear’s leg.
So far, there has been one reported incident involving the zipper piece detaching, which occurred in the United Kingdom. However, no injuries have been reported in connection with the issue.
Consumers who own one of the recalled bears are being urged to stop using it immediately. The company is offering refunds, and customers can return the toy to a Build-A-Bear store or request a free shipping label to send it back.
The recall was issued with guidance from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, and the company emphasized that safety remains a top priority as it works to address the issue.
