A young boy has died after being shot in an El Mirage neighborhood, and another juvenile was also injured in the same incident, according to police.
Authorities say officers were called to the area shortly after 8 p.m. Monday following multiple reports of gunfire near El Mirage Road and Thunderbird Road. When police arrived, they found a boy suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to a hospital but later died from his injuries.
Investigators later learned that a second juvenile had also been shot during the incident. That individual was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.
The identity of the boy who died has not yet been released. Police have also not provided any information about possible suspects or what may have led up to the shooting.
Officials say there is no known immediate threat to the surrounding community, but the investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to determine what happened.
