A woman in Oregon has filed a lawsuit against Trader Joe’s after claiming she may have unknowingly swallowed part of a human fingertip while drinking orange juice she purchased from the store.
According to the lawsuit, Julee O’Neil bought a 52-ounce bottle of Trader Joe’s organic orange juice with pulp from a location in Portland around June 14, 2025. Several days later, while finishing the drink, she noticed what she believed was an unusually large piece of pulp in her mouth. When she removed it, she discovered it was actually the fingertip portion of a rubber glove.
The complaint states that O’Neil became concerned that the glove tip may have contained part of a human finger and that she may have already ingested it while drinking the juice.
After the incident, she reported experiencing symptoms including a burning sensation in her mouth, along with gagging and nausea. Because of those symptoms, she sought medical attention at an urgent care clinic.
Before filing the lawsuit, O’Neil sent a written notice to Trader Joe’s more than 30 days in advance, requesting a $10,000 settlement. According to the filing, the company did not respond with payment, which led her to move forward with legal action.
She is now seeking $10,000 in damages along with legal fees, alleging the orange juice was contaminated.
As of now, Trader Joe’s has not publicly responded to the allegations, though a request for comment has been made.
