Glendale police have released the identities of a man and woman involved in a murder-suicide that occurred over the weekend at a West Valley apartment complex.

According to investigators, the incident happened Saturday morning at the Laguna at Arrowhead Ranch apartments, located near 75th Avenue just north of the Loop 101 Agua Fria freeway. Police say 54-year-old Jason Magaard shot his girlfriend, 52-year-old Tanya Rickman, before turning the gun on himself.

Authorities said the couple had been in a relationship and were living together at the apartment. The situation was discovered around 8:30 a.m. when Rickman’s son found both individuals inside a bedroom and immediately called 911.

When officers arrived at the scene, they confirmed both people had died from gunshot wounds. Investigators believe the case is a murder-suicide, and the area was secured as police began their investigation.

Officials have not released any additional details about what led up to the shooting.
