Two Chandler police officers are being recognized for their bravery after rescuing a young girl during a dangerous domestic violence standoff earlier this year.
The incident happened in January when officers Rupert Snedigar and Dallin Bacon responded to a call involving a domestic violence situation. Authorities say the young girl’s father was threatening to harm her while barricaded during a standoff with police.
As the situation escalated, both officers took immediate action. They moved in to confront the suspect, working to disarm him while also focusing on getting the child out of danger. Their quick response ultimately allowed them to safely remove the 7-year-old girl from the situation.
Snedigar described the tense moment, explaining how he was able to grab the girl and secure his weapon at the same time. He then pulled her away from the vehicle and held her tightly before quickly running to safety.
Bacon emphasized that their success came from preparation and trust, pointing to the training officers receive and the confidence they have in one another during high-risk situations. He said that knowing his partner would do his job played a critical role in how everything unfolded.
Because of their actions, both officers will be honored for their bravery. They are set to be recognized at the 100 Club of Arizona’s Heroes Gala, which will take place Saturday in Scottsdale.
