The Transportation Security Administration will introduce a new $45 identity‑verification option for travelers who arrive at airport checkpoints without a REAL ID or other acceptable identification. The program, called TSA ConfirmID, begins February 1, 2026, and allows passengers to verify their identity for a 10‑day travel period.

According to the agency, travelers who cannot present an approved ID—such as a REAL ID‑compliant driver’s license, passport, or trusted‑traveler card—will be directed to the fee‑based ConfirmID process before entering security. TSA officials warn that passengers using this option should expect longer wait times.

The agency emphasized that the fee ensures the cost of verifying insufficient ID is covered by the traveler rather than taxpayers. TSA continues to urge the public to obtain a REAL ID as soon as possible to avoid delays.
