A man and a woman were found dead Monday night after a fire tore through an apartment at Olive Ridge Senior Living near 103rd and Olive avenues, according to the Peoria Fire‑Medical Department.
Crews from multiple agencies responded around Jan. 12 after reports of heavy smoke and flames coming from one of the units. Firefighters arrived to find the apartment fully engulfed. They were able to knock down the blaze, but discovered the two victims inside.
Authorities have not released the names of those who died, and investigators have not yet determined what sparked the fire. The Peoria Police Department is now leading the investigation.
