Chandler police arrested three men after a confrontation involving firearms broke out in the food court at Chandler Fashion Center on the evening of Jan. 5.
Officers were called to the mall around 8:45 p.m. after witnesses reported two men pointing guns at another man near the food court. When police arrived, they found the individuals involved arguing inside a nearby store.
According to investigators, the conflict began when 53‑year‑old John Lathrop allegedly threatened and attempted to strike 22‑year‑old Jeremiah Bagby and 19‑year‑old Jalen Bails‑Bacchus. Police say the two younger men then drew their guns and followed Lathrop into the food court while shouting threats and pointing their weapons at the back of his head, prompting bystanders to call 911.
No injuries were reported. Lathrop was later arrested at his home and faces charges including making threats and disorderly conduct. Bagby and Bails‑Bacchus were arrested at the mall and are accused of aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, and concealing a deadly weapon. Police say both were also found with suspected dangerous drugs during a search at the holding facility.
Authorities report there is no ongoing threat to the public as the investigation continues.
