WWII-era Grenades Trigger Precautionary Evacuation in Globe

Authorities in Globe, Arizona evacuated parts of the city on Monday after World War II-era grenades were turned in to the Globe Police Department, prompting safety concerns.
According to officials, the grenades were brought to the station by an unidentified individual. Out of an abundance of caution, evacuations were ordered near the police department, and Pine Street and Veterans Park were closed until further notice.
Video footage from the scene showed barricades and a significant police presence securing the area. Officials urged residents to avoid the vicinity and respect all restricted zones while the situation was assessed.
The origin of the grenades and the identity of the person who surrendered them remain unclear. No injuries or incidents were reported, and authorities have not indicated whether the grenades were live or inert.
This incident highlights the importance of safely handling and reporting old military ordnance, which can pose serious risks even decades after their intended use.
